The CBJ Foundation aims to raise awareness and research funds for the rare autoimmune disease neuromyelitis optica (NMO). NMO is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, attacking the optic nerve (eye) and spinal cord, leading to blindness and/or paralysis.

The foundation was started in honor of Connor Judge, after overcoming a severe NMO attack that blinded and paralyzed him from the waist down. 

Remarkably, after 2 months of hospitalization, Connor was able to recover his eyesight and ability to walk.  He still has not completely gained back feeling in his legs or spatial sensing, and like the other 20,000 worldwide living with NMO, he faces daily complications such as chronic pain, incontinence and potential for relapse.  While a rare autoimmune disease, what we learn from NMO research may be able to unlock the cures to other autoimmune and/or neurological diseases!
