Founded in 2006, CBO was formed by a small group of individuals committed to education who learned of the obstacles facing high achieving but underserved students within the ten communities in District 113 and District 115, including Highland Park, Deerfield, and Lake Forest. Recognized as some of the wealthiest communities in Chicagoland, few people recognize that a need exists. But more than 350 high school students in these communities are identified as low-income by the state of Illinois. While the need may be greater in other communities, CBO does not feel that these kids should be left behind due to the wealth of their surroundings. Every high school student who wants to attend college should have that opportunity. Our programs, including our one-to-one mentorships, have proven to be very successful with 97% of our scholars on the path to graduation compared to just 56% of college students nationally.
