The concept for Bridges to a New Day, NFP was born through discussion between Ms. Khan and her mentor, Pat Bryant.  Pat Bryant was a person who made a difference in the lives of many people by her strong example of caring and leadership.After Ms. Bryant’s death, Ms. Khan joined together a group of concerned citizens to celebrate her memory.  After a number of meetings and a needs assessment, the concept for Bridges to a New Day, NFP came into being.The opening date of the agency was the April of 2004.  At that time, we started provided parenting workshops throughout Will County in communities such as; Lockport, Joliet, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, New Lenox.In June 2005, we obtained enough funding to hire a part-time staff person to provide parenting workshops, grief workshop, dating violence workshop and a series of workshop designed to reach out to women in unhealthy relationships.  Thanks to an offer of free space in Lockport, we will be able to provide free group services for adults and children.  And due to a generous donation, we hired our first counselor to provide free counseling services to victims of domestic violence.In July of 2006, we moved into our own space in Lockport.  And we add a family counseling program.  The agency has double services hours every year but seen a large increase in both the number of families and the number of children needing services.  Currently, we offer affordable counseling services to mostly low and moderate income level families, adults and children.  This program includes a free in-school group that provides services to children not eligible for school services but who are experiencing school behavior issues.   In additions, we provide free domestic violence counseling to victims and their children.  And we continue providing free parenting services to community groups as well as parenting consultation services at the agency.
